SUZY AND ADAM'S COUNTRY CHIC COPPER AND GREENERY WEDDING

Smoke Flares at a Wedding

Today I'm sharing the beautiful images and behind the scenes detail of the stunning wedding that was Suzy and Adam's from back in May this year. Be prepared for lots of stunning detail and the most fabulously beautiful couple all captured by the wonderful Joe Short.

THE COUPLE

Suzy and Adam met through mutual friends and after a successful first date they became a couple and a very beautiful one at that! Nearly always when a couple approach me to plan their wedding, it is the bride to be who makes the contact. Not in this case. It was actually Adam who got in touch. Suzy and Adam, although both British, live together in Boston, USA. They were debating plans for getting married. Suzy had ideas of a wedding in Europe, perhaps Italy, but Adam was keen to see what options there were for them to return to the UK where most of their friends and family are. Adam described the type of thing they were after, something laid back, relaxed and somewhere where they had the freedom to create a day unique to them and, after the seal of approval from Suzy, the planning began!

When you're planning a wedding from abroad, hiring a wedding planner makes total sense. For starters it gives you a woman (or man) on the ground to do things like venue visits and supplier meetings, they can meet people on your behalf. It's also super helpful to have someone on the same time zone. If you're 8 hours behind and working 5 days a week, making contact with suppliers at convenient times can be a nightmare. You'll also benefit from someone with the local knowledge, the supplier contacts, the know how of how things work, how much things should cost, where to source things. With Suzy and Adam I was super lucky in that we also had the opportunity to meet plenty of times before the wedding. Their work brings them back to the UK pretty frequently.

THE VENUE

The CopseSuzy and Adam chose to marry at one of my favourite wedding venues, . This place is in Oxfordshire in the heart of the countryside but within spitting distance from London. It also happens to be stunning and just a little bit magical. A massive fan of venues that allow you the freedom to do what you like on your day, the Copse ticks all the boxes and I've had the pleasure now of having planned a few weddings here. It's a venue like no other. Although The Copse is a licensed venue, the big surprise of the day for guests (including the family) was that Suzy and Adam were already married - they had tied the knot a month earlier in New York. Their best friend, James conducted a completely personal service written for them.

THE DETAILS

Hands down I do not think I have ever met such a creative lady as Suzy. From the outset she had a very clear idea of the style - it was all about the greenery (she predicted that trend before anyone else had jumped on it), copper and succulents. Some of my very favourite things. In fact it turned out that Suzy's entire family were pretty creative. Suzy's sister made her cake, an amazing drip cake creation! Her Dad built a flower arch and her mum grew all the foliage and florals which they then used to decorate it. Perhaps one of my favourite detail were the (handmade) potted succulent place names complete with copper name tags (again made by Suzy). From this to the handmade order of the day pallet sign, pimp your Prosecco station and map of the world table plan, there literally was no end to Suzy's talents! One of my favourite touches was the smoke flares. Suzy had seen an image on my Instagram of a couple using flares on their wedding day and wanted to replicate it. Not afraid to go bold, she chose orange and purple and it looked amazing! Oh and did I also mention the fact that Suzy can sing? Yup. She also wrote a song and performed it during the wedding breakfast. Incredible!

THE FOOD

Suzy and Adam wanted relaxed sharing style food and Goose and Berry didn't disappoint. Canapés were mini fish and chips and the wedding breakfast kicked off with sharing board starters of charcuterie and cheeses followed by barbecued meats and fresh salads. The dessert station of puddings was a work of art on it's own. And then, as dusk settled, the wonderful Henning arrived with his Taco Truck, ready to fuel the evening revellers.

THE DRESS

Now Suzy is the type of lady who could rock a bin bag, so when she came out in dressed in a stunning Grace Loves Lace number, the impact was jaw dropping! Based in Australia, Grace Loves Lace opened a pop up boutique in London last year and that's where Suzy first tried on the design and fell in love with it. Beautifully chic with a boho nod, it suited her and the vibe of the day perfectly. Complete with hair by Patricia Soper and make up which Suzy did herself, she looked amazing (and Adam didn't scrub up too badly either!).
